Year 11 Health and Social Care

Curriculum Intents

The intent of The BTEC L1/2 Tech Award is to ensure that all students develop the skills and knowledge necessary to work in Health and Social Care Whether that be in a medical or social care context, the curriculum provided provides them with a sound, practical knowledge of the sector. The L1/2 Tech Award, when completed at a L2 pass will equip students with the knowledge to organically progress on to A Level equivalent courses (BTEC Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care) which has received funding until 2025 and is recognised by all universities offering nursing, paramedic science and related degrees as 3 a levels when the course is completed over a two year time frame. When the T Level qualifications are inevitably introduced, the skills will also be transferable. This is also the case for The OCR L3 Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care, which the school currently teaches and assesses at KS5. This gives the students who will not easily access vocational learning, an organic progression pathway within school, under a teacher with specialist and industry knowledge. The fact the qualification is offered here, improves retention and support offered to students as class sizes are smaller allowing for more specialised support.
