]]> On Friday 20th March, over 200 Year 8 students set off on their day trip to France at 1.30am. They travelled by ferry to Calais and visited various sites throughout the day including a trip to a biscuit factory, a chocolate factory and the Nausicaá Sea Life Centre. They were praised by staff on the ferry for their respectful and polite behaviour and continued to reflect our values of being ready, respectful and safe for the whole day.

]]> The week before February half term we had the pleasure of watching our students perform in the school production. The National School Theatre Awards gave the show a glowing review “the production was a triumph of inclusivity, creativity and student achievement. Every aspect – from front-of-house responsibilities to technical design and performance – reflected a production where students were given the opportunity to contribute, grow and shine. The result was an uplifting and enchanting evening that captured the magic of musical theatre and demonstrated the power of giving young performers the stage”. Students involved have received nominations from the National School Theatre Awards for Best Actor (Max), Best Supporting Actor (Jesse), Best Supporting Actress (Violet) and Best Ensemble. ]]> On Friday 13th February students set off on their residential trip to the French and Belgian Battlefields. They visited several sites of interest including. Their first stop was Lijssenthoek Cemetery, the largest hospital site of the British Army during the First World War. They explored Vimy Ridge and the trench lines between Canadian and German soldiers, they walked up the ridge to see the Canadian memorial for those lost in the battles on this French site. At Arras in France, they had a guided walk through a small section of the miles of tunnels.

Students went to Polygon Wood Cemetery where they wrote a personal message of remembrance and observed a minute’s silence. They walked the German frontline at Bayernwald Trenches, understanding features of trenches and the problems of trench life. They experiences trenches in the snow.

On the final day of the trip students visited Hill 60 to see how close the British and German front lines were to each other, they then went to the Pool of Peace to reflect on all that they have seen and learned.

Throughout their time away students showed respect, empathy and maturity.

They took part in activities including making their own coat of arms, creating lyrics for a song with a professional songwriter, and creating their own shields for the school as to how they would like others to understand the lives of service children. They were a credit to the school and their families. Their shields will be displayed in school.

]]> Our Sports Academy is going from strength to strength and we are pleased to announce our new Rugby Academy partnership with Northampton Saints. This will provide our rugby team with new league opportunities as well as incredible support for their rugby and academic development.

In the Football Academy we have recently been joined by Andy Corton and Karl Duguid as part of our coaching team. Andy has been a goalkeeping coach for over 25 years and Karl’s professional football career included spells playing at Plymouth Argyle as well as Colchester United and more recently as a coach and manager.

]]> Students from Sigma Sixth had a fantastic and informative time in Geneva over the weekend of 28th-30th November. As well as an inspiring visit to the United Nations, they spent time at the International Museum of the Red Cross and CERN, one of the world’s largest and most respected centres for scientific research, famous for being home to the large hadron collider. They also found time to visit an animal park and a Christmas market. An excellent trip with wonderful students.
