The Philip Morant Sixth Form College ‘Sigma Sixth Colchester’ welcomes over half of its students from local schools and non-Sigma Trust schools. They quickly become important and valued members of our college community. At our sixth form college our young people are valued. We have the highest expectations from all our students, whether that is academic achievement, involvement in the sixth form and care for each other.
Students can study a wide range of subjects at A-level or choose to study from our selection of L3 qualifications, including BTECs. The sixth form has a long tradition of academic excellence with many students securing places at top (Russell Group) universities or apprenticeships in leading companies.
We are proud to include a Sports Academy which uses the sports facilities at The Northern Gateway Sports Park. Students can choose to study either the Level 3 BTEC National Extended Diploma in Sports Coaching and Development course or access the extra-curricular provision of the academy when studying A-Level PE. Both our STEM and Creative Academies provide students with hands-on learning experiences with real-world applications that will develop a variety of skills sets, and includes provision at the University of Essex STEM labs and creative opportunities in the city and beyond.
We are a progressive sixth form, with a proven track record of excellent examination results and excellent student care. Life in the sixth form is relaxed yet purposeful. Sigma Sixth will give you the opportunity to take part in a broad range of enrichment activities alongside your main programme of study. Some activities enable you to gain additional qualifications or experiences, whilst others allow you to develop a creative talent or leadership skills. Here at Sigma Sixth we have the highest expectations of our students, nurturing a growth mindset and ‘can do’ attitude.
